Inadequate.

By: Ozzy | December 21st, 2008

Actually,I’m an optimistic person.Whatever you say, like optimism is stupidity or else,I’ve always had faith on our team’s title chances for this season.I have tried to avoid criticising based on the scores that team took,we lost against Fenerbahçe and I said, allright,it will be hard to compete with a team on its own field. We lost stupid points,I believed it will be okay, other teams will lose points too.

This time, again I will not criticise my team’s performance based on the score.

But this time,my words are not gentile.

Let me mention before I begin,Holosko,Tello and Zapotocny were the 3 of 14 who played well.Especially Filip has shown a great determination and scored one,who proved that he is the most valuable player in Besiktas this season.

Oh,by the way,he is actually the only valuable player.

Okay, lets begin with the system.3 defenders and a tight midfield is the absolute anti-tactic of 4-4-2.If you have defenders like Nesta or Ferdinand midfielders like Gattuso and Vieria. If you have defenders like Gökhan Zan and midfielders like Ugur İnceman, you will face the defeat. And it will hurt.It did hurt. The wings of Galatasaray ran like steam-machines.Gökhan Zan was awful, again.Ibrahim Toraman lacked in interceptions and air balls, again.Rüstü was on his classical average performance again, and proved that a legend is over in Turkish football history, again.Despite his lack condition and low satisfaction from our club,Seric was the only part of the defence today shown some will to play, like the former match he played so I congragulate him.But the matter of fact is not how Seric played well, how the whole other defenders played worse than him.Again.Interesting,isnt it?

What about midfield?Lets start with our team’s leader and creative midfielder Matias. He scored the first goal,oh,how nice,he finished so cool that De Sanctis and Galatasaray defenders had nothing to stop the opporturnity, and what else?A huge nothing and a very beautiful red card.Red means passion and anger in colour schemes, and dissmision in football.A captain, left his team alone,in a derby.Perfect, huh? What about Cisse?Did anyone see him doing any action today?Yeah,he played whole 90 minutes, and where was he?I think he was eating popcorn in the middle of the gake while Galatasaray was scoring goals and using midfield are like a highway. And Ugur Inceman?Shake it up guys!We found our first transfer-listed player at the first half of the season. He has no positive affect,he played really bad,his stupid actions resulted into a penalty,he was messy and he was a total disaster!

Offence?Ah,a little Nobre and mix it with the only one Holosko, thats it.

I reassure my manifest here.As long as Demirören rules this club and keeps making low-quality transfers and season-middle manager changes, this club will never, ever hold the title.Blaming the manager is the easiest thing to do when you lose games.Denizli has nothing to do with the worst ever football tonigh, but his player selections today is an important affect on the score.Bobo was like a small fishing boat lost in the huge ocean, and Inceman was the most harmful thing that affected our team tonight,so,I’m sure he wished that he would have not selected them tonight,of course,it is too late to take it back after you made the damn shot.It was a very long one.It failed.

Besiktas totally failed today. No good football,no good tactics,no determination, only Holosko and his performance.

Inadequate players and chairman of this team will keep giving our team damage unless an action is taken.

Forza Besiktas.

I agree with a lot of your analysis Ozzy, but I think you overlooked a couple of things. The refereeing, as is so often the case in Turkey, was horrible. The same could be said for Cisse, and Sivok in the past, but at least one of those yellow cards for Delgado yesterday was egregious, at best.

Also, Bobo is a player who has talent which isn’t being utilized. His being on the bench so often is what makes him look like a deer in headlights, and honestly, Nobre’s garbage, and I’m not really sure he was ever very good…

I agree that Holosko is great, and that we can’t blame Denizli, fully, for the team’s performances of late, but with that said, If Saglam is still coach, we’re not in this mess, at least not this much of one… You have to admit that. We need stability, I don’t know if Denizli’s the guy or not, but he needs time, like any manager in football.

Thanks for your comment Sinan. We all know that Nobre is not a talented player, but his determination and aggression was covering his lack of ability,I also agree with your comment on Bobo, but if a striker can’t get any assists, how can they score?

Ertugrul Saglam was a manager who had a great potential, but he wasnt experienced enough.Again,we face with Demirören at this point. If he had let Saglam gain experience and show his confidence on him,he would still be managing the club. But only a little point loss then Demirören hung him.

Denizli took the charge,It’s okay,he is experienced,he hold title many times, but what about the players who are going to play at his system? What if the players are not capable of playing in 3-4-3?OH!He did not decide to transfer who,Demirören did!And because of those inadequate players,Saglam had nothing to do with the point losses either. He tried his best,he failed to cope with egomaniac chairman, that was all his fault.

I wish not to win the title this season so that Demirören go away, honestly. And I hope new board will maintain the stability, but with Demirören,it is not possible, like winning the title.

I agree that it looks like Demiroren is incapable of running the club. With that said, Besiktas still has, in my opinion, and obviously short of Arda Turan, the best young talent in Turkey right now.

Serdar Ozkan in particular looks like a player who could become very good. He’s fallen off a little this season, but I feel like he’ll definitely get better as he matures. Batuhan needs to bulk up, and get some playing time somehow… couldn’t he be loaned? Serdar Kurtulus is, at least, still young… he needs to get a lot better, but he can do it if he’s coached well.

Sivok and Cisse haven’t really impressed me much, Zapo’s been pretty good, but inconsistent. Tello needs consistency too, and even Delgado doesn’t seem to be giving it his all at times. I don’t know… the team needs to be shaken up… are there any plans for the January transfer window?

Sinan: When you say the “best young talent in Turkey right now”, are you talking about Serdar Ozkan or are you saying that the Besiktas youngsters are the best in Turkey.

If you are arguing the second one, I would reply that your looking over Galatasaray’s Mehmet Topal, Aydin Yilmaz, Ugur Ucar, Emre Gungor, and many other kids that are playing very succesfully in the second league like Ozgurcan, Cafercan, and Ugur Erdogan. While I would agree that Besiktas has some very talented kids, I feel that they’re not “the best in Turkey”.

You’re right musab, and in fact, I bet Fener fans would say the same of Parlak (and now Kayali) et al, but I’ve noticed that in Turkey, guys older than or around 21 are too often considered youths (Alex said Turks often treat 25 year-olds like youths… too old!). I meant in terms of real ‘kids,’ like Batuhan, Aydin, and Erdem on BJK, but now that I think about it, I was definitely exaggerating, but i am hopeful for Besiktas’ future, there’s definitely potential there in my eyes. The second list of Cimbom talent could be exceptional too though, and are definitely in that age range that I’m referring to.

Musab, I’d be curious to know what a Galatasaray fan honestly (all biases aside) thinks about Besiktas these days. As someone who doesn’t much engage in the ‘rivalry,’ I see amazing, relatively young Turkish talent coming out of Galatasaray, the likes of which Turkey hasn’t seen. Balta, Topal, Turan, Emre Gungor, Sabri… they’re definitely making fans of Galatasaray in unlikely sources (I’m really not sold on Ayhan though… but he’s old anyway…). I’ll be rooting for you guys feverishly come the next round of UEFA cup matches. I honestly think you guys have a shot!

Also, any thoughts on the rest of the league’s young talent? Since I can’t speak Turkish, I don’t have much access to news. Anything being said of Sercan Yildirim’s future?

Also, does that mean that you agree that Serdar Ozkan is the best young Turkish talent? Hehehe… I really like him, I think he’ll be phenomenal if he’s coached properly…

Sinan: Really kind words there, thanks. Quite honestly I’m disappointed with the way Besiktas has been for the past couple of years. I blame the club directors and Yildirim Demiroren for their horrific mangament of the club. As long as they stay in power, Besitkas can go nowhere. That a sad but true fact.

I do agree that Besiktas has some great potential in its youngsters, but I’m afraid that they won’t be able to really reach their true potential in such hectic enviornment. Look at Ibrahim Kas who left for Getafe. I kinda consider myself an expert on judging the potential of youngsters and I feel that the most talented youngster in Turkey now is not Serdar Ozkan or even Arda Turan but instead Aydin Yilmaz. He has a very natural talent for finding that beautiful pass, he knows how to get past his opponents as needed, and he always uses his tricks to get into empty channels to get the ball and do something with it. Hopefully he’ll eventually get more playing time at the club.

Unfortunantly it looks like Fenerbahce might very well get Sercan if they pay up the fee Ertugrul Saglam asks for. Shame, I would have loved to see him in a yellow-red jersey. But thats just me.
